At first, he thought it was a boulder, half-sunk into the wet sand. But as he got closer, he noticed its smooth, curved surface. It wasn’t like any rock formation he’d seen before. The thing was enormous—easily the size of a small boat—and its shape reminded him of a clam shell, though no clam on Earth could ever be this big.
