Turbulence Returns
Another burst of turbulence rippled through the plane. This time, he didn’t flinch. Instead, he stared straight ahead, lost in thought. She realized he wasn’t afraid of the sky at all. He was afraid of the memories still buried beneath it, waiting to surface whether he wanted them to or not.
A Door Almost Open
She asked him what he would do if he could go back. He answered without pause: “I would finish what I promised. No matter the cost.” His voice broke on the last word, quiet and raw. She leaned in, heart pounding, knowing she was close to the truth—but not close enough.
