Two longtime employees approached Daniel in the break room. They had overheard. One whispered, “We couldn’t speak before. Thomas asked us not to. He never wanted attention.” Daniel nodded, grateful. “Did he ever explain why?” They shook their heads. “Just that people deserve dignity.” The words lodged deep beneath Daniel’s ribs.
