The ensuing shivers of intrigue and discomfort are difficult to negate. The sight of an unexpected door opening in the arid desert raises scores of questions – was it due to pareidolia, or human tendency to perceive familiar patterns where there aren’t any? Perhaps just an illusion triggered by heat haze, or a mirage? Or, could it be evidence of an unknown subterranean civilization or an ancient culture?
