Koko’s tire-stacks were often symmetrical and neatly aligned. Francine remembered how Koko enjoyed watching the caretakers work on the area outside his enclosure: mowing the lawn and arranging the flowers symmetrically. It slowly dawned on her that Koko was imitating the groundskeepers, asserting his territory, and maintaining “his garden” with the same dedication.
